Majestic Splendour

Sit back and relax on this comfortable drive through the rolling midlands from Johannesburg to the town of Underberg, nestled at the foot of the majestic Drakensberg escarpment. Take a 4X4 vehicle drive up Sani Pass, the highest road in Africa. Enjoy a light lunch at the highest pub in Africa with its extraordinary vistas. Visit the high mountain kingdom of Lesotho and a traditional Sotho village.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

We leave Johannesburg (OR Tambo area) by 06h30 heading south towards the village of Underberg at the foot of the Drakensberg mountains. One our way we will stop in Ladysmith for lunch and visit the Ladysmith Siege Museum. Afterward we depart for Underberg. Stay overnight in Underberg.(D)

Day 2

After breakfast, we depart for our Sani Pass day tour. A guided day trip in fully enclosed 4 x 4 vehicles. Get the thrill as we enter the country of Lesotho known as "Kingdom in the Sky", zig-zagging up the highest road passes in Africa - the Sani Pass. Our lunch stop at is at the Sani Top Chalet (the highest pub in Africa). We venture further into unknown and make our way back down the mountain in the late afternoon. Stay overnight in Underberg. (B,L,D)

Day 3

We depart early morning after breakfast for the Central Drakensberg region. Our first stop will be at the Marutswa Forrest (also known as the Yellowwood Forrest, where the very rare Cape Town Parrot resides). We will then continue towards Howick along the R617, stopping at the beautiful Howick Falls for lunch. We then venture onto the famous Nelson Mandela Memorial Capture Site. After spending some time at the capture site, we depart for the Nottingham Brewery for a beer tasting tour and sampling some of the proudly South African local beers. We then continue towards Central Drakensberg. Stay overnight Central Drakensberg region.(B)

Day 4

Morning at leisure. We depart the Central Drakensberg at mid morning for Johannesburg. Late afternoon arrival Johannesburg (OR Tambo area).
